It’s been a super-hectic beginning of fall, but some really cool stuff is still to come. Get your calendars ready and organize your shizzle before you miss out!
Here’s a definitive guide of DO-NOT-MISS things happening around Finland! Holler if we forgot something and we’ll update accordingly!
AppTalk (and MSP shenanigans) Tampere 19.9.2012
Okay, this is already past us but worth noting. MSP-powered W8 talks in Tampere’s Demola were a great success and a good turn up (= sold out). The previous days also included a small MSP meet including the Virtual MSP Summit-event viewing.
eCraft hackfest Turku 29.9.2012 http://hackfest.ecraft.com/
eCraft, the company promoting to do “less software” with Microsoft technologies, is hosting a hackathon in Turku. The mover-shakers behind this promising new event are both old MSP’s Ville Koskinen from Yrityssalo and Petteri, a two-time Imagine Cup finalist and currently an eCraft employee. You need a team of 2-4 to register.

A really solid course about html 5 development in Jyväskylä with extensive partnerships to boot.
Garage48 Estonia Tartu, Estonia 5.-7.10.2012 http://garage48.org/
If you’re free to travel, you should head south to Estonia, the birthplace of Skype and a rising startup-scene. Garage48 has been gathering fame around the world and will most definitely be an event worth checking out.
Nokia DoGood Helsinki/New York 9.-10.2012 http://dogoodhackathon.com/
Nokia keeps up with their promise to promote and vitalize the Windows Phone ecosystem with another really promising hackathon-event. You might even expect to have something about the new hardware in this one, if just for drooling-purposes. Again, gather a team and apply ASAP!

An MSP powered student hackathon in Kuopio.
Arctic15 Helsinki 18.10.2012 http://arctic15.com/
Another year of startup awesomness in the form of competition. 15 top startups pitch their ideas to a crowd and a jury of judges along with some really big names giving keynotes in between. Last year’s event was spectacular and showed a really good breakdown of the hottest names in the Finnish Startup scene and I’m talking about the heavyweight-players. The force behind this awesome event is the new-media powerhouse arcticstartup.com, that is a vital source of information on all things startuppy (in Finland and the Nordics at least).
Slush Helsinki 21.-22.10.2012 http://slush.fi/
Slush just keeps getting wetter and better. This year with huge promotional partnerships with Finnish media-heavyweights and a lot more publicity, budget and visibility. This event is in the core of creating and promoting the startup subculture. Definitely worth checking out!
DigiExpo Helsinki 2.-4.11.2012 http://web.finnexpo.fi/Sites1/DigiExpo/Sivut/default.aspx
This years DigiExpo is going to have some really good hardware and other stuff for show from Microsoft. They don’t really have a stand there, they have something like half-a-floor showcasing you-know-what. More of an end-user event, it most definitely is a good spot to get familiar with the gadgets.
Other noteworthy stuff with less details
AppDay Helsinki TBA TBA
Another big hackathon were planning on, but with everything else going on right now, we still have a lot of variables here. Be sure to check back for updates.
Microsoft Student Tours around Finnish Schools Finland

WOWZAPP hackathon Helsinki 2012
This is going to be something very spectacular, the date is TBA, the details are TBA, but let’s just say it was planned to be a world-record-attempt at a hackathon-event size and more details will be disclosed in the near future.
