Finnish Game Jam part 2

FGJ2012 first 24h have passed and a lot of great game-projects are underway. The first few hours after the keynote and the official announcing of this years theme, the Ouroboros -a snake devouring it’s own tail- the teams brainstormed, pitched individual ideas and then each attendee hooked up with one.

2D is definately the keyword around here especially as this competition only has a 48h timelimit. The Helsinki site unfortunately lacks in Windows Phone 7-projects, but a quick look over at globalgamejam.org reveals that Kajaani is definitely this years WP7-powerhouse. Oh yeah and I think I saw one Kinect-project coming up in Turku.

The skill-levels here vary and choosing a framework for the development can be tricky as some people are familiar with technologies the others aren’t. I for one have spent all 24h studying the Löve2D development framework and I have to say I really miss proper IDEs.

There is a lot of talent in here but one thing this event could absolutely use is some organizers or a bit more skillful team leads. As the attendees are kinda young there is a lot of confusion and lost time because of inexperience; especially when comparing to your average software hackathon.
